The Building Healthy Communities Initiative (BHC) Strategic Communications Manager will be responsible for leading the development of strategic communications projects and campaigns to elevate the profile of the community initiatives and to tell the stories of change within Del Norte and Tribal Lands (DNATL). This role will utilize a combination of digital media and storytelling strategies to spread Wild Rivers Community Foundation's mission of generosity, inclusion and leadership and build on their existing reputation as a trusted partner, convener and leader with local non-profits and community groups. In addition this role will provide capacity building and technical assistance to grantees and community partners within the project teams. With four years left in this 10-year initiative, this position will focus on developing written, photographic, video and infographic material that serves to bring people together and create a shared understanding of people's experiences. Content must demonstrate the impact of what is taking place in DNATL for both funders and local residents to understand. This position will work in collaboration with Redwood Voice, the local youth media network housed at WRCF and the BHC Outreach Coordinator. The Strategic Communications Manager reports directly to the BHC Initiative Director.
The ideal candidate believes that DNATL can be a healthy community for all of its residents and is eager to work collaboratively with others, in particular youth, to achieve this vision. We seek applicants who are professional, extremely organized, self-starters who thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy working with policy makers and community members. Schedule may include some weekends, evenings and out of town travel.

Under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and in collaboration with the Principal Investigators (PIs) associated with the HSU HSI STEM GRANT the incumbent will be the primary research analyst responsible for the HSI STEM Grant Program Evaluation. This work includes developing and implementing structural equation modeling and multi-variate analyses to test program efficacy; reporting findings to stakeholders and program implementers; inform campus community about impact of programs; collaborating with (PIs) on development and follow-up of assessment activities related to the grant; contributing to professional presentations and peer-reviewed manuscripts of the project; and collaborating with other HSI STEM-funded California State University Campuses on collective assessment of shared activities. This is a grant-funded position and will begin upon being filled and will continue through September 30, 2021.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree required in related field (such as Statistics, Research Design and Analyses, Social or Natural Sciences) required, with a minimum of 5 years of effective project management experience in an educational setting or program.

Essential functions of the job:

  • 40% Analyze quantitative and qualitative data using advanced statistics to include (but not limited to regression analysis, multi-level modeling, pattern analysis and predictive modeling
  • 15% Develop and implement integrated program evaluations for interventions listed in the HSI STEM Grant, including appropriate sampling methodology
  • 10% Development of data models to collect and maintain program level results
  • 10% Create accurate and meaningful reports of evaluation results for both internal and external stakeholders
  • 10% Contribute to professional presentations and peer-reviewed manuscripts of the project
