Specialized Programs There are a number of local services designed to meet the unique employment needs of specific individuals or groups. These include services for the Disabled, Vietnam Veterans, Native Americans, Senior Citizens, and Dislocated Workers. If you would benefit from the services of these agencies, please call the number indicated, or visit their website to obtain more information. Native American Services Northern California Indian Development Council, Inc. NCIDC provides on-the-job training and direct job placement to Indians (not affiliated with any specific tribe). The NCIDC also operates The American Indian Art and Gift Shop, located on the ground floor of the Carson Block Building. The shop assists Indian artists by providing a market for their products, and by training Indian people who need work experience to enter the job market. California Indian Manpower Consortium, Inc. As part of Captain John Continuation High School's program, Hoopa Manpower offers services including summer training and work experiences for Indian youth; tutoring for Native American students; workshops on parenting; and field trips designed to enhance Indian youth's awareness of career options. The Center for Indian Community Development The Center is becoming increasingly involved with business and economic development activities. Staff work to help develop skilled managers and skilled workers. They help candidates acquire business-startup and working capital; and to identify market opportunities and procure sales contracts. State Disability Insurance To qualify for disability insurance, you must be a California worker who has paid into State Disability, and must be under a doctor's care, unable to do regular work, and suffering from a loss in wages. Services Branch The Humboldt County Social Services Branch offers cash assistance, food stamps, MediCal and CMSP to eligible families and individuals. The Welfare-to-Work program assists clients with childcare, transportation and work-related training expenses while working or looking for work. We will assist you becoming self-sufficient. California Department of Rehabilitation Provides training, employment opportunities, and job skills to people with disabilities. Social Security Administration HCAR/Baybridge Provides job placement and coaching services to adults with developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, and psychiatric disabilities. Humboldt County Mental Health Department The SUCCESS program is a cooperative program between Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services Mental Health Branch and California Department of Rehabilitation and it is designed to assist consumers who have expressed an interest in employment. The services offered to SUCCESS consumers are volunteer work, job exploration, resume development, application preparation, interviewing techniques, job development, direct placement, and disability benefits information and planning. The Vocational Counselors at SUCCESS are available to help the employer and employee in a number of ways, such as, job search, problem solving, job coaching, adjustment to work, job performance, and retention. Veterans Program Provides career and job interest inventories, assessment, resume preparation, job search assistance and bonding services. North Coast Veterans Resource Center Provides a career and job-interest inventory assessment, on-the-job training and classroom training, and assists veterans with their job searches. Workforce Solutions Provides job-readiness training, on-the-job training, work experience and direct placement. Applicants must be 55 or older to qualify. Eureka Adult School The Eureka Adult School focuses on lifelong learning, and provides free academic classes and inexpensive programs to adults in a variety of subjects, including basic skills, English as a Second Language, computer training, and job-readiness training. Back to TopLaid-off/Dislocated Workers Services Employment Training Division of Humboldt County The Employment Training Division of Humboldt County can provide individuals who meet federally mandated eligibility requirements with the training and services they need to get and keep a job. We assist adults who have seriously attempted, but have been unable to find suitable employment. We also work with people who have been laid off or have lost their job due to a business closure.
