Colleges and Universities

We are fortunate to have two excellent colleges in our area: College of the Redwoods and Humboldt State University. If you want to research colleges out of the area try CampusTours

Advantages of a two-year college:

  • It is less expensive than a four-year university.
  • It is easier to get into than a four-year university.
  • There are many one and two-year job specific programs.
  • You can transfer your eligible community college course credits to a four-year university.
  • Two-year colleges offer many evening classes.

Advantages of a four-year college:

  • Four-year universities offer more academic programs than two-year colleges.
  • Universities are often more competitive and challenging than two-year colleges, making for a higher level of academic stimulation and achievement.
  • Universities have on-campus housing, providing a total immersion in the college experience.
  • Universities offer graduate degrees and certificates, including teaching credentials, that two-year colleges don't.
